Family functioning as a predictor of aggression in adolescents

Abstract
This research shows the predictive role of family functioning on aggression in Peruvian adolescents. The theoretical approaches underlying the study are Minuchin's Structural Theory of Family Functioning and Buss's theory of aggression. The study is quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and predictive in nature. The sample was non-probabilistic, with 266 adolescents. The Family APGAR Test and the Aggression Questionnaire were used. The results show that family functioning significantly predicts aggression in adolescents. The model explains 23.3% of the variance, highlighting the predictive weight of family functionality. Likewise, there are differences in the general profile of family functioning according to gender, unlike aggression, where there are no differences. On the other hand, the association between the variables was statistically significant. Based on the results, it is concluded that interventions can be proposed that consider the predictive factors with the greatest impact on aggression during adolescence, proposing actions to prevent aggression and promote family functioning.
