Abstract
The Kurugua (Sicana odorifera) is a herbaceous climbing plant in the Cucurbitaceae family, valued both as an ornamental plant and in alternative medicine. Its fruits, which have a melon-like flavor, can be eaten fresh or used in a variety of sweet and savory dishes. Recently, there has been an increase in the presence of insects on its leaves, causing significant economic damage to its production. The insect associated with kurugua, commonly known as the lace bug Gargaphia lunulata (Hemiptera: Tingidae), has been identified for the first time in Paraguay. Adults and nymphs cause perforations on the underside of the leaves, feeding on the plant's sap.
